Friday-May 19 Dance Clinic in Central Magnet auditorium from 3:15-5:30. Everyone interested in trying out should attend. We will go through parts of our routines. Students will have the opportunity to practice over the weekend for Monday’s tryouts. I will send out video of the sections we work on if you wish to have it. Current dance team members will be on hand to teach sections of our current routines. Wear something comfortable, hair pulled up, jazz or ballet shoes.

Monday, May 22– Tryouts at school in auditorium from 3:15-5:30 for everyone—potential new members and current dance team members. Dance team rosters will be posted to the website by 8:00 PM that evening. There is no cost to tryout. Tryout will be a master class taught by Doki Drake Huffman, our choreographer; students will warm up and be taught a routine. This is a CLOSED audition. Girls should wear black shorts or jazz pants, white or Central t-shirt, ballet or jazz shoes, and hair should be pulled back.

Judges will be seasoned dancers (may change based upon availability):

Caitlin Berosh—current sophomore at UTK and former Central dance team member and student helper

Bailey Crittenden–Central alum, current sophomore at UTK, former dancer at Dance Works and Music City All-Stars, UTK dance team member her freshman year

Gia Mangino–Southworth–Central alum, current sophomore at MTSU, former Central dance team member and student helper, Barfield School of Dance

Aalia Hanif—current sophomore at Central, former dance team member, Dance Works alum

Doki Drake Huffman—former dance studio owner and teacher, current judge throughout the Southeast at dance competitions, Central Dance Team choreographer, teacher at Siegel Middle School

Dancers will be judged on the following: flexibility; the ability to perform and excite the audience; stage presence; jazz, hip-hop, ballet experience and any “tricks.” Each dancer will be asked to perform an original eight count.

**New students and new prospective dance team members will NOT be allowed to try out without TSSAA forms filled out. They are linked on my website, the Central Dance websites and can be found under SPORTS on the Central site. Current team members must try out again, but I have your paperwork on file. Current team members  (if you are chosen for the 2016-2017 team) MUST  have new paperwork for the 2016-2017 school year upon arrival at Dance Camp on July 17.**

July 17, 18, 19, 20, 21– Dance camp. Time and location TBA.  Look to dance calendar for times. Four to five hours total each day. Dance camp cost–$60 CASH. This includes choreography and music paid directly to Doki Drake Huffman and Bailey Crittenden and t-shirt.

**All students must have all TSSAA forms filled out to participate in dance camp. New students and new dance team members will have turned this in during tryouts in May; all previous dance team members MUST NOW HAVE NEW DOCUMENATION FOR THE 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR. If you do not have all documentation turned in Monday, July 18 you will watch and participate when paperwork is completed. If you play another sport, please MAKE COPIES so you will have them available for other sports. Emailed copies of paperwork have not come through well in the past; I would appreciate hard copies.**

CMS Dance Team Constitution

Purpose

It is the purpose of this group to join together in good sportsmanship to promote a community of dancers and entertain during pep rallys and during basketball games. The organization’s goal is to work in harmony with administration, faculty, band, athletic teams, and all other school organizations.

Practices and Games

Practices and conditioning will be set by the coach and are mandatory._____

Attendance to games with proper attire is mandatory._____

Dance Team Member must be at practice prior to a performance to be able to dance on the floor._____

Dance Team Members must have everything asked for to perform and know the dance completely!_____

Each dance team member must have a bag specifically for dance with all necessary dance items: hair spray, brush, ponytail holders, safety pins,  black jazz shoes, black Vans tennis shoes, black jazz pants, black leggings, all dance shirts.._____

Attendance from a scheduled activity may be excused at the discretion of the coaches. School-related trips/activities are excused, but please let us know as soon as possible when those activities are. I do not consider community service a “school-related activity.” _____

Per county policy, if a student is absent from school, she may not perform in a sporting event after school hours._____

Expected Behaviors and Standards

Members are expected to follow all Central Magnet Conduct regulations stated in student handbook.

Members should be respectful and encouraging to coaches and other dancers at all times; this includes during the school day, during practice and performances, on social media, and at your home dance studio.

Members should be on time (or early) to practice and games.

Members should email Ms. Davis if they have a change in plans. Do not rely on another team member to tell me; handle it yourself.

If a member signs up for a study hall, she should arrive in Ms. Davis’s room by 3:15 to check in and pay for dinner delivery if she is eating. A member is free to go to another section of the school after she has checked in. Please do not bring students to study hall who are not on the dance team; my room is small and study hall is a time for building camaraderie on the dance team.

Transportation

Members are responsible for their own transportation to and from all practices, games, and other events unless informed otherwise.

Finances

Members are responsible for providing their own shoes, uniforms and accessories. I expect each dancer to come in with dance basics: black jazz shoes, black jazz pants, plain black sports bra, black leggings, black Vans tennis shoes. Examples of these are on my website. Basic dance supplies can also be purchased in town at The Dance Store, 1602 West Northfield Blvd, suite 501.
